ABOUT ARTSTREET

Youth Program that Fosters Creativity

Arts Street is a Denver, Colorado youth program that creates opportunities for the youth of Colorado. The opportunities provided are designed to foster the inspiration and education of these youth to become tomorrow's professionals - supporting the workforce needs. This is achieved by developing and implementing highly diversified career-based, educational programs that incorporate real-world learning, artistic expression and creative thinking.
To learn more about Arts Street Please go to { www.arts-street.org}
The mission of Arts Street is to cultivate underserved youth into a creative and culturally competent workforce by using the power of the arts to engage youth and build leadership skills, with arts professionals as teachers and mentors.
 PROGRAMS:  Arts Street uses art as a vehicle to help low-income adolescents design and produce functional products, solve problems, and learn basic principles of entrepreneurship.  Working with professional artists and mentors, kids create high-quality products to fulfill contracts with businesses and public agencies.  Public art installations, magazines, films and recordings, and graphics for web sites are only a few of the products our young people have created.  Students also learn that creative talent can take them far beyond traditional arts disciplines such as painting, sculpting, or performing, to encompass film, television and other broadcast media, digital design and animation, web design, video game development, urban planning, advertising, marketing, packaging, and more.
Arts Street was founded in 1995 to help high-risk youth overcome barriers to self-sufficiency by channeling their artistic talents and creative ideas into professional activities that provide real-world employment experience.  In 2004 we were honored by the First Lady of the United States with the prestigious “Coming Up Taller” Award as one of the 15 best after-school arts programs in the nation.  Initially a program of  Denver’s Office of Workforce Development, Arts Street incorporated as the private non-profit “Friends of Arts Street” in 2005, and expanded its programs to include customized educational and enrichment activities for schools, recreation centers and youth organizations.  The demand for our services is very high—far beyond our current capacity; participants have increased from 250 in 2004 to more than 1300 in 2007.
